Heading Out

After the safety briefing, the vessel will leave the harbor and begin the 15 minute trip out to the survey/snorkel site. On the ride out, your marine biologist and safety diver/divemaster will educate you about marine life behavior, biology, physiology, our current research, and safety. Below is list of some of the information we will cover:

  • What types of marine animals you will potentially see both near and offshore

  • What species of pelagic marine life to look for and how to tell the difference between species.

  • How to determine gender and the differences in behavior

  • What specific behavior/body language to look for

  • How the animals biology and physiology effects their behavior

  • How your behavior effects their behavior

  • How weather and seasons effect the animal's behavior and how it can effect your specific trip

  • The significance of marine life in Hawaiian and Polynesian culture.

  • How to contribute to or support marine life surveys.
