Save The Sea Turtles International (STSI) is a non-profit that was founded in 1988 with the goal of preservation and conservation for sea turtles (or “honu”) through education. Protection under the endangered species act in 1978 put the Honu on track for their populations to recover but there are are many ongoing threats that need to be addressed both locally as well as globally. STSTI historically held regular beach cleanups to collect plastic lead weights and fishing line to prevent ingestion/entanglement, and engaged with the community to educate them on the importance of honu. As their populations have steadily recovered the goals of the organization has grown to encompass various forms of marine life which are all connected and interdependent. STSTI participates in monthly cleanups and outreach efforts in partnership with Water Inspired Conservation Group and One Ocean Conservation.
